Welcome to the web site of the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG). The “Piano Page” contains information about everything related to pianos, piano tuners, technicians and piano tuning and repair.
Our Resources page has information for tuners, technicians, teachers and pianists. It provides information and illustrations on piano care and maintenance as well as piano competitions around the world. You will also find information on piano history and research in this area. If you are interested in becoming a piano technician this page provides educational resources as well.
The most important thing we do is to qualify technicians as Registered Piano Technicians to assure quality piano service by requiring that a technician pass a rigorous set of examinations. The RPT credential shows that the technician is ready to handle normal piano tuning, service, and repair. The Piano Technicians Guild has put a lot of time and effort into its examinations to establish a good set of standardized tests which will help insure quality piano service. The RPT exams do not currently test for the complete set of piano rebuilding skills.
Now a regular feature of our site is our PTG Blog. This has current information about the Guild, the Piano Industry, and other items of interest.
