Welcome to Providence... most of our history is still here!
Come to Providence, a medium-sized city jam-packed with everything but traffic jams! On the East
Side, the area of our city surrounding Brown University
and the Rhode Island School of Design, a substantial historic district has the most authentically
restored 18th-century homes in our country. It is rumored that sometimes at dusk on a frosty
evening, when the skyline is bathed in the dramatic purples and ambers of a winter sunset, you
can hear the footfalls of those -- like Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft -- who roamed the city
in centuries past.
Downtown Providence Waterplace Park and Riverwalk, 2 blocks from the Rhode Island Convention Center
and the Westin Hotel
Come to Providence to explore our diverse neighborhoods. Just up the street from the Convention Center,
enjoy Federal Hill, Providence's own "Little Italy". Imagine you're in Europe. It isn't hard to do,
especially when you're dining in one of the sidewalk cafes surrounding the fountain on the cobblestoned
DePasquale Plaza! Here, and on the East Side, are some of America's most highly rated restaurants
featuring a variety of international cuisines, as well as some of international cuisines, and some of
the finest "nouveau American" innovations.
And speaking of innovation, Providence's newly designed waterfront and river walkways lead to an
expanded Arts & Entertainment district. Jazz, rock, blues, folk -- we've got great music in terrific
clubs! We're also home to the nationally acclaimed Tony award-winning Trinity Repertory Theater. Our
Providence Performing Arts Center brings the tops in national entertainment extravaganzas.
Our Civic Center is the home of the Providence Bruins hockey team and other stellar attractions;
everything is within easy walking distance from the Convention Center.
There's much more in Providence for you to explore. We promise you the possibilities are ever
expanding, and we invite you to experience the ambiance of our city because most of the history is
still here.
