Responsibilities: Reporting to and under the direction of the Director of Production and Technical Operations (Director), the GMC Piano Technician is responsible for piano tuning activities at various locations at the Green Music Center, including halls and classrooms. The incumbent tunes, voices, regulates action, and repairs mechanical problems. In addition, the GMC Piano Technician tunes and provides minor maintenance to harpsichords and related instruments. Assignments will require significant adeptness at tuning, regular use of reversible voicing techniques, and regulating instruments to the exact tonal qualities and touch desired by individual pianists.
Qualifications: This position requires two years of experience in tuning and repairing pianos, harpsichords, and related instruments; as well as two years of experience in overhauling and rebuilding pianos. Completion of a formal training program which provides the individual with the knowledge and abilities required of the position may be substituted for the two years of general tuning and repairing experience. Five years of professional piano tuning experience for large organizations and/or concert halls, including experience in tuning and repairing pianos, harpsichords, and related instruments; and membership and active participation in the Piano Technicians’ Guild (PTG) is highly preferred. Certification and/or participation in workshops by premier piano manufacturers, like Steinway, Yamaha, Fazioli and license as a Precision Touch Design installer preferred. Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) is required.

ASSOCIATE PIANO TECHNICIAN, PART-TIMEDescription: A half-time (20 hrs/week), fixed schedule piano technician expected to tune and service school’s pianos with emphasis on practice room and residence hall pianos.  Fixed schedule 6:00 am to 10:00 am, 5 days a week, one weekend day required.  Reports to Chief Piano Technician.  Responsibilities: Tune, service, and maintain pianos in practice rooms in Irene Diamond and David Rose buildings/Clean and polish pianos, clean insides, and clean key tops as needed/Perform yearly prep including lubrication; treatment of bushings, cloths, and felts; regulation; and voicing on practice room and other pianos, as assigned/Manage piano benches in pre-assigned area/Keep track and report all performed work to supervisor/Report and coordinate addressing facilities issues/Coordinate work with other piano technicians/Help with all aspects of piano maintenance, moving, and rebuilding throughout school/Tune, prep, and perform necessary repairs on other school’s pianos including performance pianos.
Qualifications: High school or equivalent/2 years of experience/Piano Technicians Guild current member or equivalent/Organizational skills/Spreadsheet proficiency/Ability to work independently/Willingness to be team player/Interest and ability to set and achieve goals/Strong interest in improving technical skills, display openness to new ideas/Must be able to work evening and weekends when assigned/Previous university or other institutional experience preferred/Piano Technicians Guild RPT status or equivalent preferred/Attendance at classes and/or PTG conferences preferred/Graduate of recognized training program preferred.
