PTG Auxiliary Convention Events
Join us in Seattle! Thinking of Seattle? By Dawn Purney, Auxiliary PresidentFor the first time, the annual PTG convention will be held this year in the Seattle, Washington area. Personally, I have never been there – and I can’t wait to see it! I hope you’ll join me, whether it’s your first time, too, or your fiftieth. Although the Convention site is outside of Seattle itself, the Auxiliary schedule will include a tour into the city. We will be taking a tour on an amphibious duck to get a flavor of the city – on ground and on the water all in one unique vehicle! And what tour of Seattle would be complete without a stop at Pike’s Market, famed for fish-throwing merchants as well as the original Starbucks®. Finally, does it even need to be said that we’ll be taking a trip up in the iconic Space Needle? But our tour will only be part of our busy schedule while in Washington. As always, we will be hosting our Scholarship Recital, highlighting our junior and senior award winners from Washington state. We will also conduct our council meeting to make decisions important for our organization. Then we will be doing our fun gift exchange game – we invite you to bring something from your state or region for the game. The Auxiliary schedule has several other activities making a comeback by popular demand. We will be having another Spa Party, featuring massages for all. We will also have a business forum for those members who are part of their spouses’ piano business. In this informal forum we share ideas, tips and tricks, and lots of stories. All this in addition to the concerts, dinners, and other activities the Guild includes in its schedule of activities. Want to prolong the fun? Join member Sharon Champine and her husband heading a group for an Alaskan Cruise after the Convention (see ptgAux.org for details). If you’re not already a member of the Auxiliary, you can still become a member by sending $20 to the PTG Home Office. You will get a discounted rate on our convention activities if you join now. And be sure to sign up for the Auxiliary tours in Seattle this July 11-15! Book Discussion: Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Miracle Regional Gift Exchange: Some people call it a “White Elephant Exchange” others call it the “Dirty Santa Game.” All we know is that it’s fun. Make something or bring a gift that represents your region or state. Bring it wrapped - and please remember that some people are traveling by air and are limited by space/weight. Business Forum: Many Auxiliary members are involved in the piano business, but don’t want to take classes during the convention. So we have an informal forum for anyone who is involved in the music, piano or tuning business. The forum is great time for us to share ideas, ask questions and problem-solve together.
