PTGA Scholarships

Together we can work to support the world of music. At the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards, Michael Greene, Recording Academy President and CEO said, “Music is a magical gift we must nourish and cultivate in our children, especially now as scientific evidence proves that an education in the arts makes better math and science students, enhances spatial intelligence in newborns, and let's not forget that the arts are a compelling solution to teen violence, certainly not the cause of it!”

The Piano Technicians Guild Auxiliary helps to nourish the magical gift of music by presenting scholarships each year to a senior division winner and a junior division winner of one of the state piano competitions sponsored by the Music Teachers National Association. In addition, we invite these young performers to play for us in an evening recital during our convention. In 2005, our scholarship winners were some of the first artists in the world to perform on a new 9' 4” Mason & Hamlin concert grand piano. In addition, it was a concert where there was no question that the piano would have been freshly tuned. RPT Elizabeth Ward even slipped into the concert hall to touch up the tuning after our scholarship winners had warmed up on the piano. Mason & Hamlin Piano Company was the Auxiliary's corporate co-sponsor for this event.

The 2004-5 PTGA Scholarship winners were Robyn Meahl, junior division winner in the Kansas state MTNA competition, and Zachary Turner, senior division winner in the Kansas state MTNA competition.

Our 2005-6 PTGA Scholarship winners will be decided at the New York state MTNA competition to be held on October 21, 2005, at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.

If you would like to donate to the PTGA Scholarship Fund, please send a check (payable to PTGA) to the PTGA treasurer, Marilyn Raudenbush, 20 N. Laurel Street, Millville, NJ 08332-4148. You do not need to be a PTGA member to donate to the Scholarship Fund, but you are welcome to join our organization for another $20.

“Music is one way for young people to connect with themselves, but it is also a bridge for connecting with others. Through music, we can introduce children to the richness and diversity of the human family and to the myriad rhythms of life.” — Daniel A. Carp, Eastman Kodak Company Chairman and CEO.
