Kind of like, there are 10 types of people in the world, those who  
under stand binary and those who don't.

It sounds like what you experience as the pure octave is actually a  
2:1 octave and you may not be noticing the other simultaneous octave  
relationships (4:2, 6:3, 8:4, etc.).
