   Yes,   I have for years.  
 
     Except !!   I went one step further and  removed 
the metal seizures  in the damper block.
   
     I strung 4-6 of them on a soft wire (two  inch) 
tighten the screws. 
   
  This takes little/no  less space in your kit,  weighs 
nothing,  cost nothing,  reusable   and is dependable.
