Flushing over-lacquered hammers

Hi Folks,

No I'm not (yet) thinking of flushing these lacquer briquettes down the
toilet. But I would like to hear from anyone who has dealt successfully with
such hammers. I'm thinking that flushing with acetone might do the trick.
Anyone want to share techniques that worked?
