Tining pin bushing purpose, was Xylol for tuning pin bushings

I thought bushings were inserted after the pinblock was drilled, and that
the hole was smaller than the pin diameter deliberately to give the pin a
little less tendency to flagpole. I would think drilling the bushings
after insertion would almost defeat their intended purpose.

Other piano manufacturers besides M & H will tell you that the primary,
if
not the sole, purpose of tuning pin bushings is to center the drill in the
hole. But, is that really optimal? . . . . . <<
