I agree there are dangers in talking on the phone while driving (or
doing anything else while driving) but with a hands-free device that
will dial on voice command I don't think it is any more dangerous than
talking to a passenger. Actually since you don't have the temptation of
turning to look at the passenger it might be safer. I have missed exits
talking to my wife while she is with me. If they outlaw conversing on
the phone in a car, they need to outlaw conversing with a passenger. I
read the story in your link and I think they need to study in-car
conversations too!

Actually, there are studies that show that using a cell phone while
driving is actually like driving under the influence of alcohol. In
fact, the studies showed that you are more impaired than using alcohol.
Even if you use a hands-free device. I have actually missed an exit
more than once while conversing on the phone. It's not like you're
listening to the radio. Your mind goes somewhere else. Check out this
