John, I have been taught that once you see 
verdigris, you have to assume that the wood 
around the pin is affected also. Is this not 
your experience?

Carl, you could treat the whip flanges, and 
possibly get alot of life out of them if they're 
not as bad as the hammer flanges. Lots of stuff 
in the archives about getting rid of, or at 
least, neutralizing verdigris. I've been 
successful a few times myself.
