The Department of Music at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is seeking applications for an experienced piano technician (R97215) to manage the tuning, maintenance and replacement schedules for the department’s piano inventory. The 12-month half-time position includes full benefits. Minimum requirements include at least 2 years’ experience in the field of piano technology and a bachelor’s degree. Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required, as is familiarity with standard software for academic computing, such as MS Office. Preferred qualifications include experience in management of keyboard inventory at a college or university, knowledge of piano manufacturing and service procedures for major makes and models (i.e. Steinway, Bösendorfer, Yamaha), and experience with piano maintenance in challenging atmospheric conditions. Additional preferred qualifications include credentials as a Registered Piano Technician in the Piano Technicians Guild. The Music Department is a member of NASM; the piano inventory is comprised of 40 pianos, including two Steinway Ds and a Bösendorfer Imperial Grand for concert use. The concert hall includes a climate-controlled “piano garage” in the wings. The department is housed on the 150-acre campus, located minutes from downtown Little Rock, home of the Arkansas Symphony, the Clinton Presidential Library, the Arkansas Arts Center, and the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. The Fine Arts building includes a 300-seat Recital Hall, two large rehearsal halls, practice rooms, classrooms, and faculty studios and offices. The technician works collaboratively with the piano program to ensure instruments (approximately 110 pianos) are regularly maintained. Responsibilities include repairing/replacing and cleaning; providing technical support to pianists preparing for recitals/performances; advising on selection and purchase of pianos and keyboard instruments; and supervising/assisting moving of pianos. Required: High School diploma or GED; two years experience as a piano tuner and technician; expertise in tuning, regulating, voicing, repairing pianos; willingness to work flexible hours; excellent interpersonal skills.
