New Rosewood Regulations in Effect

Effective January 2, 2017, new regulations went into effect regulating the import and export of rosewood. These new regulations will primarily impact importers and exporters of lumber and finished products, and also expand special permit requirements for musical instruments crossing international borders. PTG members looking for guidance can visit www.fws.gov/international/permits/by-activity/musical-instruments.html for a Q&A. In addition, the League of American Orchestras has a webinar available at 1sourceevents.adobeconnect.com/p9505cbidb6.

NAMM continues working closely with the governmental agencies and has a great list of resources and references at: https://www.namm.org/issues-and-advocacy/regulatory-compliance/cites-update-commercial-rosewood-and-bubinga.
