APPRENTICE PIANO TECHNICIAN POSITION AVAILABLE. Matt Grossman is seeking an apprentice piano technician. Grossman is a Registered Piano Technician and full-time piano craftsman since 1975. He is owner of The Piano Shop located in the Louisville, Kentucky metropolitan area. The Piano Shop (TPS) is a dealer of new and used pianos. TPS offers piano tuning, repair, and restoration services to an actively managed customer database consisting of approximately 6000 clients with new clients acquired regularly. Currently the services of 3-4 TPS piano technicians are managed and coordinated by a full-time service manager. In addition, TPS offers piano lessons and piano moving and storage. Grossman previously developed and led the Piano Technician Apprenticeship program for the University of Memphis and University of Louisville. He has taught graduate level piano maintenance courses for University of Memphis, University of Louisville, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Matt has a record of training individuals who have gone on to have successful careers as professional piano technicians. This is a unique opportunity for the right person. The successful candidate will have serious interest piano technology and a desire to work with a master craftsman leading to a career in the piano industry. Some previous interest/experimentation with tuning is preferred. Background in mechanics and/or crafts is desirable. Knowledge of basic music theory and keyboard familiarity essential. TPS apprentice is expected to work in all areas of the business while in apprenticeship status. This is a documented course with specific projects, required reading, and regular testing.
