The Piano Technician is responsible for and maintains the piano and harpsichord inventory (100 pianos, 3 harpsichords) of the Lamont School of Music. The quality of keyboard instruments and their conditions are part of the critical operation of Lamont as it relates to teaching, practice, and performance on keyboard instruments. Additionally, this position plays a significant role in the public face of the university, both through its support of Lamont and for touring artists performing in the Newman Center. Lamont is an all-Steinway school.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AMHERST is seeking a Piano Technician to tune, maintain, and repair the approximately 80 pianos owned by the Department of Music and Dance.
Minimum qualifications include an associate degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in concert quality tuning; documentation of specialized training in piano maintenance, preferably from a recognized school of piano maintenance; demonstrated skills in repairing keyboard problems; and possession of a Massachusetts class D driver’s license or equivalent. We are doing high level voicing and regulation to the highest-level pianos in the industry. We have several university contracts in the greater New England area as well as many private clients. We are accepting beginners and veterans. We have one of the most state of the art shops in the country and can give you the variety you may desire. You will do everything from shop work to concert work, in-home service, and schools. You will also be working on new Yamaha, Bosendorfer, Schimmel and Estonia pianos, as well as pre-owned Steinways.
